Plain-English summary: Family Handover is an organisational tool — not a legal, financial, or banking service. We help you store and find information. What you do with that information is your responsibility. Please read the nominee notice in section 10 carefully — it is important for Indian users.

1. Accepting these terms

By downloading, installing, or using the Family Handover app or website, you agree to these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, please do not use the app. These terms form a binding agreement between you and Family Handover (operated at familyhandover.in).

We may update these terms. If we make material changes, we will notify you at least 14 days before they take effect via the app or email. Continued use after that date means you accept the updated terms.

2. Who can use Family Handover

You may use Family Handover if you:

  • Are 18 years of age or older.
  • Are legally capable of entering into a binding agreement under Indian law.
  • Are using the app for your own personal or family use — not for commercial resale or bulk data processing.

Family Handover is designed for use in India. We make no representation that the app or its features are appropriate or available in other jurisdictions.

3. Your account

You sign in using your Google or Apple account. You are responsible for:

  • Keeping your sign-in credentials secure.
  • Keeping your 12 recovery words in a safe physical location. We cannot recover your vault if you lose them.
  • All activity that occurs under your account.

You must notify us immediately at [email protected] if you suspect unauthorised access to your account.

4. What Family Handover is — and is not

Family Handover is a personal record organiser. It is:

  • A place to store references and contact information for your bank accounts, insurance policies, investments, and property.
  • A readiness tool to help your family find important information when needed.

Family Handover is not:

  • A bank, insurance company, or financial institution.
  • A legal service or law firm.
  • A will, trust, or estate planning document.
  • A replacement for professional legal or financial advice.

5. Permitted use

You may use Family Handover to:

  • Store and organise your own personal and family financial records.
  • Share your recovery words with trusted family members so they can access the vault when needed.

You must not:

  • Use the app to store information that belongs to someone else without their knowledge or consent.
  • Attempt to reverse-engineer, copy, or reproduce the app or its code.
  • Use the app for any illegal purpose under Indian law.
  • Upload malicious files, scripts, or content designed to harm our systems.

6. Pricing and subscription

The core features of Family Handover are free to use, with no time limit. These include adding records, searching, and viewing your readiness score.

Optional premium features (such as cloud backup and multi-device access) may be offered as paid subscriptions. If you subscribe:

  • Your subscription renews automatically unless you cancel before the renewal date.
  • Pricing is displayed in Indian Rupees (INR) and is inclusive of applicable taxes.
  • Refund requests are handled in accordance with the policies of the App Store (Apple) or Google Play, depending on where you subscribed.

7. Your data and vault contents

You own all the information you put into your Family Handover vault. We do not claim any rights over your records.

By using optional cloud backup, you grant us a limited, secure licence to store your data solely for the purpose of restoring it to your devices. We do not read, analyse, or share the contents of your vault.

You are responsible for the accuracy of the information you store. Family Handover does not verify the details you enter.

8. Service availability

We aim to keep Family Handover available at all times. However, we do not guarantee uninterrupted access. We may temporarily suspend the service for maintenance, security updates, or reasons outside our control.

We are not liable for any loss arising from service downtime.

9. Intellectual property

The Family Handover name, logo, app design, and website content are owned by us and protected under Indian intellectual property law. You may not use them without our written permission.

We grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to use the Family Handover app on your personal devices for the purposes described in these terms.

10. Important notice about nominees under Indian law

Nominees are custodians, not automatic legal heirs. Under Indian succession law (including the Hindu Succession Act, Indian Succession Act, and banking regulations), a nominee is appointed to receive assets on behalf of the estate temporarily. The nominee must then distribute assets to legal heirs according to the deceased's will or applicable succession laws. Family Handover helps you record nominee information, but using the app does not constitute estate planning or will writing. Please consult a qualified legal advisor for proper estate and succession planning.

11. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by Indian law, Family Handover is not liable for:

  • Any loss of data if you lose your 12 recovery words and do not have a cloud backup.
  • Any financial loss resulting from inaccurate records stored in the app.
  • Any disputes arising from nominations, inheritance, or succession that are related to information stored in the app.
  • Indirect, incidental, or consequential damages of any kind.

Our total liability to you for any claim is limited to the amount you have paid us in the 12 months preceding the claim. If you have not paid us anything, our total liability is limited to ₹1,000.

12. Indemnity

You agree to indemnify and hold Family Handover harmless from any claims, losses, or damages (including legal costs) arising from your use of the app in violation of these terms or applicable law.

13. Termination

You may delete your account at any time from within the app. On deletion, your account data will be removed within 30 days.

We may suspend or terminate your account if you breach these terms, with or without notice depending on the severity of the breach.

14. Governing law and disputes

These terms are governed by the laws of India. Any disputes arising from these terms shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts in India.

We encourage you to contact us first at [email protected] to resolve any issue informally before initiating legal proceedings.

15. Contact

For questions about these terms, please contact us at [email protected]. We aim to respond within 5 business days.
